My name is Barry O’Sullivan and I’m a fine artist based in the small village of Ferns, Co. Wexford.

My interest in art started at a very early age with a pencil and paper always within reach. I was lucky enough to have won several art competitions along the way which was a great encouragement. My interest in art developed further in secondary school with my goal to go to art school one day. When I completed secondary school, my dream came true, and I was accepted to study Fine Art at Waterford Institute of Technology. I learned a lot throughout the three years drawing, painting, sculpture, pottery, woodwork, photography and finally specializing in my final year in Art and Technology and 3D animation for my diploma.

I was very lucky to be offered an animation role after graduating and this started my 21 year journey in the Games and Tech industry working for gaming studios like Blizzard and Universal Studios (part of the Vivendi Group) for 6 years as a 3D Graphic Artist on some major titles like Diablo, The Hulk, Half-life and following this as a Project Manager at Microsoft for 15 years. During this time, where possible, I continued to paint and draw in my spare time until life got busier.

Due to the impact of Covid 19 in 2020, when all our lives slowed down, and we all suddenly had more time on our hands I decided to pick up the pastels and paint brushes again.  I was very apprehensive at first in case I had lost it but once I got started and with encouragement from my family and friends, I got going again, and realized how much I had missed this creative outlet.  I really enjoy the process of creating a piece of art getting lost in a piece for 4 to 5 hours at a time but what really makes it all worthwhile are the different reactions people have to each piece.

I now specialize in both chalk pastels and in acrylic paints and like to paint both Landscapes (natural scenery both locally and nationwide) and Portraits (both people and pets).  One thing I have taken from the last 18 months we have all been through is that it’s important to stop, take the time to appreciate our friends and family, our surroundings whether that is a mountain, a river, a corn field, or a flower and of course our four-legged family members. Why not have these images transformed into a work of art that you can view every day in your home that transports you to that special place or a memory of a loved one.  Commissioning a portrait is a great way to keep your memories alive.

I hope that you enjoy My Gallery of work.

If you are interested in commissioning a piece, please let me know through the Contact page and we will work together to produce a memorable piece of art that you can cherish forever.

Thanks Barry
